 Product and Process Design

Instructor:  Professor Karthik Ramani

Course Description:
This course will allow engineers to learn techniques to compress the product and process development cycle to produce a marketable product, a business plan and prototype. The course will provide an overview of relevant engineering principles related to product and process design in lectures. They will also learn the use of advanced computer-aided design tools for product and process design. A market analysis, design parameters, manufacturing prototype plan, production process plan, and a business plan will be developed in the labs. Prototyping of the product is required. A product opportunity will be identified by each group, customer needs will be factored into the design, a prototype will be made using computer-aided design tools before physical prototyping, the design will be refined, marketing and sales strategy will be formulated, and a presentation will be made in a product fair.
