| ||
| Based on the number of articles published in the seven leading finance journals over the past 50 years, Emanuel T. Weiler Distinguished Professor of Management John McConnell and Herman C. Krannert Distinguished Professor of Management Wilbur “Bill” Lewellen were ranked as the field’s third- and seventh-most prolific researchers, respectively. The FMA Fellow Program was established in 2000 to provide recognition to individuals who have made significant contributions to the profession. These contributions may be through distinguished scholarship as evidenced by someone's contributions to the literature throughout his/her career or the contributions may have gone beyond academic scholarship by supervising PhD students, writing books, editing journals, or through work with professional associations like FMA. | |

| Appointments: This year, the finance department gains 3 new professors. Huseyin Gulen, who graduated from Purdue in 2001 and joined Virginia Tech, is currently visiting at the University of Michigan. He rejoins Purdue after 6 years away. During his years in the wilderness, Gulen published extensively on a number of areas such as asset pricing and mutual funds, in top journals such as the Journal of Finance, the Review of Financial Studies and the Journal of Business. We are also proud to get Mara Faccio, a noted expert on expropriation, as a chaired Associate Professor. We only hope she does not practice her skills on the rest of the finance faculty. Finally, but not least, Jin Xu, joins us as a new assistant professor from the University of Chicago. | ||

| Change your name to make money Purdue University finance professor Raghu Rau and University of Utah professor, Mike Cooper, who now have three papers published on name changes (two in the Journal of Finance and one in the Journal of Corporate Finance), say that names definitely have the potential to add shareholder value. When Cooper and Rau, who now dominate the burgeoning name change literature (consisting of around five papers), were asked whether they were going to change their own names, they said there was no need. Rayo added, "Our own names get mispronounced all the time, so in effect, every person we meet gives us a new name. After all, how difficult can it be to pronounce Panambur Raghavendra Rau?" | ||
