here to find a detailed description of admissions
requirements.
-
Admission decisions for
the OBHR PhD program are made by a committee
of OBHR faculty members; individual faculty
members do not admit students.
-
Competition for admission
is demanding; typically, less than 5% of
applicants are accepted into the program.
-
Review of applications
typically begins in February each year.
-
The committee takes a
"whole-person" approach to reviewing files
and making admission decisions. This
means that no one factor determines
admission. Committee members try to
assess the full qualifications or each
applicant when making a decision. Many
factors are considered such as:
-
Evidence
that this applicant has a
strong commitment to
developing himself or
herself as a scholar and
teacher and seeks a career
as a future faculty member
at a leading university;
-
Past
educational performance
degrees obtained;
-
Scores on
GMAT or GRE admission exams
(we accept both);
-
Past
research experience and
accomplishments;
-
Work
experience including
internships, part-time work,
or military service; work
service is not required, but
can be a plus;
-
Involvement and leadership
in activities and
organizations, wither when a
student or in the community
at large;
-
Essays by
students and letters of
recommendation.
-
Applicants may be
contacted for phone interviews or may be
invited to campus for interviews.
-
Offers to applicants will
typically be forthcoming during the Spring
semester.
