Reflections from Former Students
Professor Alison Cook, Utah State University
PhD 2004
"The faculty-student relations at Krannert are amazing.
During my doctoral program, I regularly interacted with the
brightest minds in my field. Yes, the intellectual
demands are challenging, but I graduated knowing that I had
the foundation and training necessary for success in
academia."
Professor Gary A. Ballinger, University of Virginia
PhD 2004
"What I liked about Purdue's program was that when I
left, I knew how to be a college professor from Day One.
Purdue's PhD program gave me a terrific 'realistic job
preview' of what it takes to succeed as a college professor.
The educational emphasis on statistics and research methods
and the access to faculty really allowed me to learn how to
develop my ideas and build a research program, and the
experiences in teaching enabled me to hit the ground running
when I started my job."
Professor Rebecca Bull, Illinois State University
PhD 2008
"The OBHR faculty treat their PhD students
like colleagues rather than assistants. My ideas were more than
solicited; my analysis and critiques of research and practice were
demanded. My experience at Krannert was both challenging and
empowering as I learned the foundations of theory within the various
facets of our field and how to ask important questions. I am excited
to continue passing on the passion which was encouraged by my
faculty."
