--Tim Folta was the recipient of the Fulbright Special Award for the 60th Anniversary of the Fulbright Program in Italy. He will spend 4 months in Calabria and Rome as a Senior Research Scholar lecturing and conducting research on High Technology Entrepreneurship during the 2009-2010 academic year. Host institutions are Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali “G. Carli” (LUISS) in Rome and at the Università della Calabria (UNICAL - Arcavacata Campus).

--Recent doctoral student placements: Brian McCann has accepted a position at Vanderbilt University, and George Shinkle will be joining the University of New South Wales.

--Jeff Reuer has been elected the Assistant Program Chair of the Academy of Management's Business Policy and Strategy Division, beginning a five-year term as an officer of the division.

--Arnold Cooper, Louis A. Weil, Jr. Professor Emeritus, has been selected as the recipient of the "Entrepreneurship Educator of the Year" Award by the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE).

--Tim Folta was on sabbatical for 2007-08 at EM Lyon Business School working with Frederic Delmar on various research projects.

--Joan Allatta received the Distinguished Teacher Award for the 2008 Spring Semester from the Krannert School of Management.

--Jeff Reuer has been named a program co-chair of the Strategic Management Society’s 29th annual conference in Washington, DC.

--Thomas Brush co-chaired (with Kent Miller) the dissertation committee for Dinesh Iyer. Dinesh’s dissertation titled “Performance Feedback, Slack and the Timing of Acquisitions, Direction of Diversification, and Firm Performance” was a finalist in the BPS Division of the 2008 Academy of Management Best Dissertation Competition, Anaheim, CA.

--Aldas Kriauciunas was the Runner-up of the Salgo Noren MBA Teaching Award 2007-08.

--Charlotte Ren’s paper “The Rise and Fall of Entrepreneurial Opportunities: A Process Model for Corporate Entrepreneurship” (co-authored with Chao Guo) received the Entrepreneurship Division “Research Promise” Award, representative of the best papers submitted to the 2008 Academy of Management Conference.

--Jeff Reuer was named the first recipient of the Strategic Management Society’s Emerging Scholar Award for research, education, and other professional activities.

--Joan Allatta was the invited speaker to the symposium "Communities of Practice and Evolutionary Economics: Routines in Question” at the 2008 Academy of Management Meeting, Anaheim, CA.

--Tim Folta has had the following papers accepted for publication: McCann, B.; and Folta, Timothy (forthcoming). “Demand- and supply-side agglomerations: Distinguishing between fundamentally different manifestations of agglomeration.” Journal of Management Studies. --Aldas Kriauciunas was the key note speaker (title: “Globalization: Challenges and Obligations for Institutions”) at International Business Development: Globalization, Opportunities, Challenges, Vilnius, Lithuania, May 2008.

--A grant proposal co-authored by Charlotte Ren and George Shinkle was a finalist in the 2007 Case Research Grant Competition organized by the North American Case Research Association.

--Jeff Reuer has been named an Associate Editor of the Strategic Management Journal and a Consulting Editor at the Journal of International Business Studies. He has recently received best reviewer awards from the Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, and Journal of Management Studies.

--Joan Allatta was the invited speaker on the topic of "Knowledge Networking" at the 2007 and 2008 GE internal meetings.

--Tim Folta was invited to the Carey-Darden Entrepreneurship Scholars’ Retreat and has recently presented papers at the following institutions: University of Lyon (France), IESE (Barcelona, Spain), Max Planck Institute (Jena, Germany), and Carlos III University (Madrid, Spain).
