CIBER Global Business Achievement Certificates for 2012 go to Krannert masters graduates. The CIBER Certificate in Global Business Achievement recognizes graduating masters students who have made a commitment to the global understanding of business beyond their regular coursework. To qualify for this award, students must have completed four credit hours of specialized international coursework and two credit hours of global experiential learning in the form of study abroad or international internships. This year's recipients were Amber Allen, Brittany Hill, Pierson Kuo, Jiangbo Lei, Mark Lip, David McDairmant, Jason Merritt, Nga, Nguyen, Heather Owens, Rex Shen, Amilcar Velasco, and Akihiro Yamada.

Leading Expert on Cuba to Speak to Krannert Students. As part of the CIBER Global Management Forum Speaker Series, Dr. Paolo Spadoni, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Augusta State University will lecture students and business leaders on the current situation and direction of the Cuban economy. Dr. Spadoni has conducted extensive research on the Cuban economy and the economic impact of U.S. sanctions against Cuba. He has published widely in scholarly and academic venues and is the author of Failed Sanctions: Why the U.S. Embargo against Cuba Could Never Work. Most recently, he contributed a chapter on Cuba’s economic policies to the Oxford Handbook of Latin American Political Economy and an article on Canada-Cuba business relations in the Thunderbird International Business Review (forthcoming). He is currently working on a book on the Cuban economy. The program will take place Wednesday, March 28, from 5:00-6:00pm in Rawls 2070. -
Canadian Consul General to Speak at Krannert. In partnership with the Purdue Department of Political Science, Purdue CIBER will host Dr. Roy B. Norton, Consul General of Canada as part of the CIBER Global Management Forum Speaker Series. Mr. Norton will speak about the current Canada-U.S. business and trade relationship as well as the significance of the Canada-Indiana relationship. Subjects discussed will include bi-national issues such as trade policy, border security, energy, and infrastructure. Distinguished Professor of Tsinghua University, Dr. Baiyin Yang, to Address Purdue Faculty and Students on "Confucianism, Socialism, and Capitalism: A Comparison of Cultural ideologies and Implied Managerial Philosophies and Practices in the P.R. China. Dr. Yang serves as Chair of the Department of Human Resources and Organizational Behavior of the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University. His talk will discuss the ways in which contemporary organizational behavior and management practices in the Peoples Republic of China tend to refelct the ideologies of these three cultural forces.

Latin America Expert Speaks to Krannert Masters Students.
Dr. Terry McCoy, a specialist on the political economy of contemporary Latin America, will speak on current developments in the region and share his assessment of long term prospects. Dr. McCoy is Director of the Latin American Business Environment Program and Professor Emeritus of the University of Florida and authors the annual Latin America Business Environment Report available online. 18th Annual Empirical Investigations in International Trade (EIIT) takes place with CIBER support. Hosted and orgranized by Krannert Professor of Economics David Hummels, the EIIT research conference was held November 4-6, 2011 at Purdue University Krannert School of Management. This major conference presented 12 research papers to an audience of 34 researchers and doctoral students from major universities in the U.S. and abroad. Read more....

CIBER honors Dr. Christiane Keck for her dedicated service as founding editor of “Global Business Languages.” Dr. Keck, Professor Emerita of German and former Head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures (now School of Languages and Cultures) at Purdue University, provided the driving force for the creation of the GBL Journal in the mid-1990s. Professor Keck retired from the university in 2002 and continued as co-editor, along with Professor Allen Wood, until 2010. The luncheon held in her honor on the Purdue campus was attended by Allen Wood, Professor of French and Editor of "Global Business Languages," Professor Greg Hundley, CIBER Director and Associate Dean for Krannert School of Management Global Programs and Initiatives, Adrian Del Caro, Professor and Head of the School of Languages and Cultures, Susan Clawson, GBL Publications Coordinator, and Dr. Greg Cutchin, Managing Director of Purdue CIBER.

Krannert forms new relationship with leading Chinese university. Krannert has signed a “Letter of Intent” for strategic cooperation with the Tianjin University College of Management and Economics, Tianjin, P.R. China. The document forms the framework for cooperation between the parties to identify and achieve shared goals and objectives, and to facilitate and develop a genuine and mutually beneficial exchange process and research relationship. Initial focus of the relationship will be undergraduate student exchange programs, with eventual expansion into areas of joint faculty research, publications, and conferences. The initiative was headed by Purdue CIBER Director and Associate Dean of Krannert Global Programs and Initiatives, Professor Greg Hundley; Krannert Dean, Professor Chris Earley; with TJU represented by Professor Wei Zhang, Dean, College of Management and Economics; and Dr. Xiaomei Li, Assistant Dean of Foreign Affairs.

Krannert forms new relationship with leading Chinese university. Krannert has signed a “Letter of Intent” for strategic cooperation with the Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE), Dalian, China. The initial focus of the relationship will be undergraduate student exchange programs, with eventual expansion into areas of joint faculty research, publications, and conferences. The initiative was headed by Purdue CIBER Director and Associate Dean of Krannert Global Programs and Initiatives, Professor Greg Hundley, with DUFE represented by Tariq Malik, Professor in Business and Management and Director of the International Center for Organization and Innovation Studies.
CIBER Hosts Chinese Visiting Scholar. Dr. Xiaomei LI will reside as visiting scholar within the Krannert School of Management forapproximately one year starting February 2012. Dr. LI is the Assistant Dean of Foreign Affairs and Lecturer of Micro-behavioral Management in Cross-cultural Environments at the Tianjin University School of Management and Economics (TJU), Tianjin, China. The focus of her stay will be the development of current research as well as the exploration of possible institutional collaboration between Krannert and the TJU School of Management.
- Krannert undergrads compete in CIBER Case Challenge. Purdue CIBER sponsored four Krannert students to participate in this international business case competition held at the Fisher College of Business at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The participating students were Shulai Duan (ECON 2010), Taylor Jenkins (MGMT & ACCT 2012), Bhargav Kotadia (ECON 2012), and James Xu (MGMT (2012). Learn more.
- CIBER supports MBA team to compete in the 2011 John Molson International Case Competition in Montreal, Quebec . Six Krannert students competed against teams from top business schools worldwide.
