Mark Burton

Strategic Sourcing Manager; Tires, Wheels,
and Mounting Systems
John Deere

Born and raised in central Indiana. Graduated from Purdue University in 1978 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, and a minor in Economics. Interned with John Deere Harvester Works in 1977, started to work full time at John Deere in May 1978 as a Manufacturing Engineer. Received Master’s in Business Administration in 1985 from University of Iowa. Progressed through several Engineering and Manufacturing assignments, and then transferred to Corporate as Regional Manager in International Purchasing; travelled extensively in Europe, South America, and Asia, and had responsibility for International Purchasing Offi ce in Seoul Korea. Transferred to John Deere Davenport Works (Construction Equipment Division) as Manager of Strategic Supply Management in 1993. Assigned as Manufacturing Manager in 1996, for Motor Grader and Excavator Division. Named Program Manager for “C” Series Motor Grader in 1997. Transferred to Corporate M & A group in 1998, and assisted with share purchase of Bell Equipment in South Africa. Named Manager of Corporate Recruiting group in 1999, and led development of fi rst Corporate recruiting process in 2000. Received Certifi cate in Human Resource Management in 2001. Transferred to Corporate Supply Management group in 2001, and have served as Strategic Sourcing Manager on both Steel and Tire/Wheel product groups. Global Tire and Wheel team is currently responsible for the commercial and strategic relationships with ~20 tire, wheel, and mounting suppliers, supplying components to all 27 John Deere factories around the world. Total annual spend in excess of $1.2 billion. 

Active as Board Member of State of Illinois United Way, and Board Member of United Way of the Quad Cities. Past School Board Chair and Library Board Chair (East Moline). Received Spirit of Service Award from UWQC in 2002. Married to Debbie Burton – 5 grown children, 4 grandchildren, with two more on the way. Live in the country in Geneseo, Illinois, and enjoy fishing and golfing.
