Entitled “Manufacturing – Thriving Through the Storm”, the event brought together nearly 50 industry, faculty and both undergraduate and graduate students from the school of management, to share best practices, discuss existing business difficulties and set sites on executable opportunities to create optimism across the state, and beyond. Two hallmark events tookcenter stage at this year’s conference; the always exciting student summer internship poster competition as well as the much anticipated roll out of results from the 2009 Gear and Fulcrum – Performance and Practice of Indiana Manufacturing Firms survey.  The 3rd year for this informative manufacturing operations study growing in following and sponsored by the certified public accounting firm, Katz Sapper & Miller, LLP, Partner in Charge Mr. Scott Brown of KSM along with Center Director Dr. Ananth Iyer presented this year’s analysis of the results and state of manufacturers commentary.

We would like to thank the generous sponsorship of our friends and industry partners for helping us make this annual event possible. With their financial assistance, we are able to provide monetary prizes for our wonderful group of students who have entered the 2009 internship poster competiton.

Other highlights of the day-long conference included guest speakers from Indiana INTERNnet, the Indiana Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), and successful Indiana business executives from AIT Laboratories in Indianapolis and B. Walter & Co. from Wabash Indiana. We were also briefed on current operations research underway and funded by the generous DEVOS foundation.
