Professor De's teaching interests include database management, telecommunications, and strategic implications of information systems. His current research interests include heterogeneous databases, e-business, social networks, and software engineering.

Professor De has been heavily involved in professional activities in the MIS arena. Currently, he serves on the advisory boards of three journals,
Information Technology & Management, Information Systems Frontiers, and
Information Technology & Systems Abstracts, and on editorial boards of two others,
Journal of MIS and Decision Support Systems. In the past, he served on the advisory board of
Information Systems Research (1999-2006) and as an associate editor of
Management Science (1995-2008), Information Systems Research (1991-98), and
Decision Sciences (1993-99), among others. He was program chair of the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) in 1999 and workshop co-chair of the Workshop on Information Technologies & Systems (WITS) in 1994. He served as co-chair
of the ICIS doctoral consortium in 2006 and of the ICIS dissertation competition in 2007. He was president of WITS from 1998 to 2000 and its advisor from 2001 to 2003. He also served as chair of the Information Systems College (now Society) of the Institute
for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) over three consecutive terms during 1990-1993. He was named an inaugural distinguished fellow of this society in 2009.
Prior to joining Krannnert in 2002, he held the Sherman-Standard Register Chair in MIS at the University of Dayton for more than a decade. He started his academic career at Ohio State University, beginning as assistant professor of accounting and MIS in
1978 and becoming associate professor in 1983 and professor in 1988. He was at Cornell University during 1983-1984 as visiting associate professor of MIS.
