Professional Bio:

Professor Tang teaches data mining, quality management, applied statistics, management science, and research methods. His current research interests are data mining, on-line process control, integration of quality functions in a manufacturing organization, and e-commerce. His research and teaching have been supported by the National Science Foundation, the National Research Council of Taiwan, Amazon.com, Louisiana Board of Regents, Louisiana State University Council on Research, and the Association of Diving Contractors. Professor Tang is a recipient of the 2003 Salgo Noren Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching, the 1988 Presidential Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation, the 1998 Distinguished Alumni Award from National Chiao Tung University of Taiwan, and the 1996 Accomplished Graduates Award from the College of Business Administration, Bowling Green State University. He has had several honorary appointments, including TiasNimbas Faculty Fellow, University Chair at National Cheng Kung University of Taiwan, and Tien Cheng Chair at National Central University of Taiwan. He was named a Fellow of the Decision Sciences Institute in 2007. He is the founding editor of International Journal of Business and Information and a senior editor for Production and Operations Management. He has served as a department editor for IIE Transactions (on on-line quality control and several other journals. He has published more than 70 research papers in Management Science, Operations Research, Naval Research Logistics, Technometrics, IIE Transactions, Applied Statistics, Decision Sciences, and other journals. Before joining Krannert, Professor Tang served as chairman of the Quantitative Business Analysis Department, and has been E.J. Ourso Professor of Business Analysis, co-holder of Edward G. Schlieder Endowed Chair of Information Sciences, and Southern Scrap Material Company Faculty Fellow in TQM at Louisiana State University. His professional affiliations include Phi Kappa Phi, Omega Rho, Beta Gamma Sigma, INFORMS, ASQ, POM, and DSI.
