Dave ScottContinuous Term Lecturer;
Dave Scott is a licensed CPA in Indiana and Texas, as well as a CMA, with extensive experience in both professional and academic accounting. Dave began his professional accounting career on the audit staff of Peat Marwick (KPMG) in Chicago before moving into corporate accounting and advancing to Controller of a $120 million supply chain partner to the airline industry in the United States and internationally.
After his time in corporate accounting, Dave joined the AICPA as the Technical Manager of Accounting and Auditing Continuing Professional Education (CPE) where he was responsible for developing and maintaining over 30 accounting & auditing courses, working with both academic professors and practicing CPAs from across the country. Dave's tenure at the AICPA also included writing three International Financial Reporting Standards CPE courses – Earnings per Share; Business Combinations; and Financial Instruments – and attending meetings of the Auditing Standards Board, Technical Issues Committee, Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and Private Company Council (PCC).
After his work at the AICPA, Dave was the Director and Lead Author of Accounting and Auditing Product Development for a leading national CPE provider where he authored dozens of CPE courses for practicing CPAs and financial professionals. His CPE publications included best-selling courses covering recent accounting and auditing standard setter activities, compilation and review engagement performance, and critical developments at the FASB and PCC. Additional CPE publications included courses covering revenue recognition, leases, financial instruments, fair value accounting, financial statement disclosures, the Statement of Cash Flows, and professional ethics for CPAs.
Dave joined Purdue's Krannert School of Management in the fall of 2015, teaching courses in Intermediate Accounting I and II. Dave was named an outstanding and distinguished teacher for all of the courses he taught during the fall 2015 semester. During the spring 2016 semester, Dave taught two mass sections of Management Accounting I, two sections of Intermediate Accounting II, and the Governmental & Not-for-Profit course to both undergrads and graduate students. Dave was again named an outstanding and distinguished teacher for all of the courses he taught during the spring 2016 semester. For the summer 2016 12-week term, Dave developed and taught an on-line version of the Management Accounting I course to students around the world, and was again named an outstanding and distinguished teacher for this course. During the fall 2016 semester, Dave taught a section of Intermediate Accounting II, a section of a new course he developed, Financial Reporting Frameworks (to undergrads and graduate students), and a section of Governmental & Not-for-Profit Accounting (again, to undergrads and graduate students). Dave was again named an outstanding and distinguished teacher for all of the courses he taught during the fall 2016 semester.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities during the fall 2016 semester, Dave also developed another new undergrad and graduate student course, Accounting Ethics, which has been approved by various State Boards of Public Accountancy as meeting those states' ethics course requirement to apply for taking the Uniform CPA Examination.
During the spring 2017 semester, Dave is teaching two sections of Intermediate Accounting II, a section of Governmental & Not-for-Profit Accounting (to undergrads and graduate students), and a section of the new course he developed, Accounting Ethics, again, to under grads and graduate students.
Dave also received the 2017 Krannert Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching award as voted on by graduating seniors and presented by the Dean's Office.
Dave earned his undergraduate degree in accountancy at Arizona State University, his MBA at Illinois State University, and is a member of AICPA.
