Sally ByrnChief Executive Officer (Retired)
Sarah R. Byrn (“Sally”) received her B.S.N. degree from DePauw University Greencastle, Indiana. Early in her career she worked as a public health nurse and a medical-surgical nurse. When her husband joined the Purdue School of Pharmacy faculty in 1972, she began working in the community and co-founded the Health Referral Center and the American Lung Association’s Family Asthma Program. She taught childbirth, baby care, breastfeeding and sibling prep classes at a local hospital.
In 1991 she and her husband founded SSCI, a high-tech company dedicated to providing research and information to the pharmaceutical industry in the niche area of solid state chemistry. She was the President and Chief Executive Officer of SSCI until they sold it to Aptuit in 2006 at which time she became Vice President of Scientific Operations for Aptuit. At that time she was responsible for the Kansas City, West Lafayette and Edinburgh, Scotland sites. SSCI received five Indiana Growth 100 Awards given by Indiana University’s Kelly School of Business and was listed on the Fortune 500’s fastest growing privately held firms in 2002 and 2003. She does not consider herself an entrepreneur. Instead, she says Steve is the entrepreneur and she is the “facilitator of the entrepreneur”.
After six months of retirement, she became Chief Executive Officer of Family Services, a local non-profit. In 2010 she retired again and now serves on the boards of Lafayette Savings Bank, Family Services, Wabash Center and is active in community affairs. She and her husband Steve originally had eight children, four biological children and four adopted. They adopted two of their grandchildren and are now raising a six and an eight year old.
