Purdue SHRM Chapter  Places Sixth in Nation

Purdue's Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) chapter placed sixth out of 119 schools competing for the national society's Merit Award, which recognizes chapters for outstanding activities and programs in four areas:

¥ Chapter support of the professional development of members

¥ Chapter support of SHRM

¥ Chapter support of the profession

¥ Professional operation of the chapter

The chapter was recognized for its accomplishments at the 53rd Annual SHRM Conference and Exposition in San Francisco, Calif., June 24-27.

By Nicole Estes, SHRM treasurer

The Purdue Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) sponsored three fundraising events this spring. The funds raised were donated to two important causes, the Juvenile Shoplifter Offender's Program (JShOP), administered by Mediation Services of Tippecanoe County, and a scholarship fund that will be used to finance an undergrad-uate's trip to the SHRM National Conference in June. Proceeds totaled more than $2,500.

The Silent Auction was held in conjunction with an End of Module Celebration sponsored by the dean's office and the Krannert Graduate Student Association (KGSA). Overall, proceeds exceeded $900.

The "Win a BIG Jar of Money" guessing game brought in more than $100.  Thanks to the following for their donations: B. Moss, Ben & Jerry's, Chili's, General Mills, Hooters, Jake's/Pizza King, Papa John's, Seattle Beanery, SHRM, and Target.

The cash donation drive has also been successful; the following companies donated $1500 in total: Addison Professional Financial Search, Agilent Technologies, W. W. Grainger Inc., Raytheon, Square D Company, and United Technologies Corp.
