The School of Management Council
(SMC) jumped into the fall semester and has hit the ground
running. We are busy planning activities and events for
the future.
The Sunday before classes
began, SMC and the School of Management welcomed more
than 500 freshmen to the School. The event, chaired by
sophomore Stacy Merrifield, was a success. Caroline (Carrie)
Campbell, BSM '00, spoke to the freshmen about how to
spend the 1.5 million minutes they will have on campus,
a message that was well received by the Class of 2005.
Our community service organization,
Students Taking Active Roles in Service (S.T.A.R.S.)
had a successful 5k walk during Parents Weekend on September
23. The money raised benefited the Susan G. Komen Breast
Cancer Foundation. Our thanks go out to the alumni who
donated their time and money to make the event a success.
The third annual Case Challenge
between Purdue and Indiana University will occur November
9-10. Purdue is hosting the event in West Lafayette.
Chairperson Jon Stanner and his committee are currently
interviewing students to determine the participants,
as well as searching for judges to decide the winning
presentation.
Last spring, Mike Nielsen
chaired the first annual Diversity Dinner. The event
began in the drawing room with hors d'oeuvres from different
cultures. See p. 26 for further information.
SMC has also begun recruiting
freshmen and sophomores to join in December. We are excited
about the incoming class, and look forward to their future
achievements.
We appreciate the support
and feedback of alumni. For more information on SMC,
