Executive
MBA class golfs for charity by: JoAnn Whitford
A Krannert Executive Master of Business
Administration (EMB) class joined the
fight against cancer by holding a June
golf outing at Purdue’s Kampen Course. At the event’s
conclusion, class president Chad Salisbury presented a check
for $2,065 to Leslie Goss from the Lafayette Chapter of the
American Cancer Society.
Salisbury
says that the class, which entered
in 2002, has developed into a very
cohesive group with solid camaraderie. "We
understand that the Purdue MBA
experience extends beyond the classroom," says
Salisbury. "This was an opportunity
for us to come together in the
spirit of friendship, professionalism,
and caring for a good cause."
Salisbury
said the American Cancer Society
was selected because many of the
EMB participants have been affected
at one point or another by the
physically and emotionally devastating
disease. More than 70 percent of
the class participated in the event
by raising funds, taking pictures,
heckling the golfers, and golfing.
Krannert, company sponsors, and
the local Lafayette/West Lafayette
business community donated the
prizes.
The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation of Kansas City, Mo., has selected
Purdue as one of 15 universities that will receive a $50,000 planning
award to participate in the foundation’s initiative to build
entrepreneurism into college curricula and activities.
The
Kauffman Foundation will award five to seven challenge grants, each
up to $5 million, based on proposals to be presented in December.
As part of its Kauffman Campuses initiative, the foundation will
make the awards on the basis of the universities’ demonstrated
abilities to make entrepreneurism a common and accessible experience
for all students; to infuse entrepreneurship into campus culture;
to adopt a unique, innovative, and potentially break-away approach;
to provide support of top university leadership; and to position
the university to serve as a model for other colleges and universities.
