Two new clubs come to Krannert

The Krannert Wine Club and the Krannert Recreational Sports Club entered the 2003-2004 school year as KGSA’s newest clubs.

The Krannert Wine Club, founded by Fermin Uribetxebarria, MBA ’04, promotes social events among its members and other master’s students, while improving the knowledge and understanding of wine through seminars, tastings, and lectures.

The Krannert Recreational Sports Club, founded by Andrew Altschul, MSHRM ’04, provides a forum for students to organize and participate in athletic events. By doing this, the club hopes to meet the social and recreational needs of Krannert students. Ultimately, KRSC would like to host weekly athletic events that cater to the desires of its members.

Day trip shows many financial facets

Last semester, members of the Krannert Finance Club got a chance to take some shots at the Chicago Board Options Exchange, one of which is featured here. Chicago Board of Options ExchangeThe club visited the CBOE as part of a one-day trip that also included stops at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Federal Reserve Bank. At the CBOE, they got a tour and learned how transactions took place on the trading floor, including the functions of the various traders holding seats. The CME tour offered further details on how commodity trading has changed over time, and at the FRB, the club members enjoyed a presentation on the function of the Federal Reserve with regard to monetary policy as well as how money is distributed throughout the banks, checked for forgeries, and removed from circulation.
