McCartney named Purdue’s IT vice president, CIO
Gerry McCartney, former assistant dean of technology at the Krannert School, was appointed as the University’s vice president for information technology and chief information officer in May.
McCartney had served as Purdue’s top information technology administrator in an interim capacity since July 2006, during which time he also maintained his responsibilities at Krannert. He continues to act as principal investigator in the school’s SIFT Project, which involves the implementation of new technologies in the delivery and management of research data.
As CIO, McCartney is responsible for overseeing Information Technology at Purdue, known as ITaP, including the planning and coordination of central computing and telecommunications systems on the West Lafayette campus, along with media production and distance-learning services.
“Purdue should be a global leader in information technology usage,” McCartney says. “I believe we have the talent and skill in our people, the resources, and the will to become a model for all research-driven universities, and I look forward to leading our efforts to reach that level.”
