School of Management Council (SMC) Update

The School of Management Council (SMC) wrapped up a busy fall semester with the success of two large events. The SMC Diversity Dinner was held in November with director Pat Hellmuth and committee members hosting guest speaker Rich Fredrick of Kraft Foods. The event was highly attended and provided great insight on the importance of diversity in the workplace.

The holiday season brought the 15th Annual Head Start Christmas Party, which would not have been possible without the generosity and involvement of Krannert’s faculty and staff. Nearly 45 children between the ages of 3 and 5 came from the Lafayette Head Start/Early Head Start Center to open presents, play games, sing, and learn crafts as well as visit with Santa and see the Christmas tree at Purdue Memorial Union.

Without this event, their holidays may have been bleak. We were able to brighten their holiday season with joy and gifts donated by faculty, staff, and local merchants. What a great way to end 2007!

SMC kicked back into gear in the second semester. With new members and officers, we immediately set our goals for a successful spring. In January, faculty and student relations chair Chelsea Baker brought to life a Student and Faculty Dinner. Sixty-five students and 11 faculty members were in attendance. This provided a phenomenal experience for the students to get to know their professors on a more personal level.

As we look ahead to the upcoming months, Management Week is rapidly approaching. We will be hosting an ice cream social to help students cool off and relax. We will also be bringing back a popular event, the Student and Faculty Golf Tournament. This should be a competitive and fun way to once again emphasize our role as the student and faculty liaison.

With all the hustle and bustle that a school year brings, we would like to take the time to send gratitude to our loyal alumni. Your continued support of Krannert’s undergraduate program is greatly appreciated. We look forward to our role in continuing the school’s great success. Boiler up!

Dean was part of a group of children from the Lafayette Head Start/Early Head Start Center who visited Krannert in early December for a holiday party. The event has been sponsored for the last 15 years by the School of Management Council.
