Golden Memories
Anniversary brings
together former colleagues and classmates
The Krannert School celebrated its 50th anniversary during homecoming week, October 25–27, 2007, with
a series of keynote addresses, panel presentations, and events for alumni, former and current faculty members, students, staff, and friends.
Featured speakers included 2002 Nobel Laureate Vernon Smith (HDR ’89), who began his academic career at Purdue in 1955 and taught in the School of Management for 12 years.
University of Chicago President Emeritus and Distinguished Service Professor Hugo Sonnenschein (MSM ’63, PhD ’64, HDR ’96) keynoted another session, while Morgan Burke (BSIM ’73, MSIA ’75), Purdue’s director of intercollegiate athletics, hosted an appearance by former Boilermaker quarterbacks Mike Phipps (BSIM ’70) and Mark Herrmann
(BSM ’81).
Alumni panels on entrepreneurship, change
management, leadership, ethics, and technology rounded out the three-day celebration, which was anchored on Thursday night with the Krannert
Leadership Speakers Series (see page 19) and on Friday afternoon with a free concert by ‘60s-era band The Buckinghams. Events culminated on Saturday with Purdue’s Homecoming game against
Northwestern University.
