School of Management Council (SMC) Update

The School of Management Council ended 2008 on a high note and began the new year with an enthusiasm for continued success.
In December, SMC hosted a holiday party for students from the Lafayette Head Start/Early Head Start Center. More than 40 children from age 3 to 5 visited the Krannert Drawing Room for a morning of crafts, snacks, games, and gifts. We extend our gratitude to the numerous faculty, staff , and local merchants who supported this fun and rewarding event.
Previously comprised of eight committees, SMC also began transitioning to a new internal format last semester. To serve the Krannert community in a more efficient and effective manner, SMC is now made up of four larger committees. Our executive board, committee heads, and new members have embraced this change and continue to look for opportunities to better serve our constituents.
In early February, the Barbara G. Doster Leadership Forum was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Indianapolis. The biennial event brought together 100 of Krannert’s top students for a weekend of enrichment with corporate representatives and sponsors. Participants explored and improved their skills in communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, etiquette, creativity, and motivation.
Our members have also been busy this year coordinating SMC’s peer-mentor in management program and participating in events such as the Relay for Life. These and other activities help students to build a network of support and resources as well as to give back to the community. In addition, SMC continues to host town hall meetings that allow students to voice questions and concerns to Krannert faculty and staff .
The spring semester culminated with Management Week, an annual celebration of Krannert’s undergraduate program. The week’s activities were organized by the Management Ambassadors and hosted by SMC, the Society of Minority Managers, Women in Business, School of Management Employers Forum, and other student organizations.
With all the activity a school year brings, it’s also important that we take time to thank our loyal alumni. Your ongoing support of Krannert’s undergraduate program is deeply appreciated and we look forward to your continuing role in the school’s success. Go Purdue!
