Krannert congratulates the following faculty and staff members on their recent accomplishments:
Jen Bennett has joined the Krannert master’s program staff as associate director of admissions. Bennett, who previously worked at the University of Illinois, will oversee personnel and operations for the admissions office and help manage the applicant pool. … Professor Emeritus Arnold Cooper, strategic management, received the 2008–09 Entrepreneurship Educator of the Year award from the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship. … Burton D. Morgan Chair of Private Enterprise David Denis, finance, was recognized as a Distinguished Scholar by the Southern Finance Association and delivered the keynote address at its annual meeting. … Priya Francisco, continuous term lecturer in quantitative methods, received a $2,000 service-learning faculty development grant to design a course in which students use the skills they learn in the classroom to complete community service projects. … A project co-authored by Basil S. Turner Distinguished Professor of Management Steve Green, organizational behavior/ human resources, and a Purdue doctoral student in psychology was selected by peer review for the John Flanagan Award for the Outstanding Student Contribution to the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology conference program. … Prof. Huseyin Gulen, fi nance, was a finalist for the 2008 Smith Breeden Prize for his article with Michael Cooper and Michael Schill in the Journal of Finance, “Asset Growth and the Cross-Section of Stock Returns.” Gulen’s paper with Cooper and Alexei Ovtchinnikov, “Corporate Political Contributions and Stock Returns,” won the best paper award in corporate finance at the 2009 Midwest Finance Association meeting. … Amy Kirkland (MBA ’08) has joined the master’s program staff as manager, advising and student services. … A paper co-authored by Emanuel T. Weiler Distinguished Professor of Management John McConnell, finance, “Equity Returns at the Turn of the Month,” was voted by the Financial Analysts Journal to receive a Graham and Dodd Scroll Award for 2008. The award recognizes excellence in fi nancial writing. … Prof. Jeffrey Reuer, strategic management, was named the Blake Family Endowed Chair in Strategic Management and Governance. Reuer, who earned his doctorate from Krannert in 1997, previously served on the faculty at the University of North Carolina. … Roger Stewart (MSIA ’74) has been named director of Graduate Career Services (GCS) at Krannert. Stewart joined the school in 2004 as an adjunct faculty member in the finance area after retiring from a 30-year career at Procter & Gamble. He is responsible for the overall strategic direction and management of the office. … Professors John Umbeck, economics, and Susan Watts, accounting, were inducted into Purdue’s Book of Great Teachers, which honors outstanding teaching faculty who demonstrate sustained excellence in the classroom.
