Krannert students enrolled in the Master of Science in Human Resource Management (MSHRM) program recently held mock interviews with individuals participating in the Business & Professional Exchange (BPE). Ten Krannert students participated in these mock interviews with business professionals who were looking to develop their interviewing skills. Both the Krannert students and the BPE members benefited from this exercise since each group of participants were looking to develop and practice the skills they had been learning.
The mock interviews came about as a result of the efforts by Krannert MSHRM student Senem Guler. Guler was interested in practicing the HR skills she was learning at Krannert such as interviewing job applicants. She wanted to know how it felt to be on the other side of the interview table. She mentioned this to a friend who is a member of the BPE and the two began to work on a plan which would be beneficial to both groups.
The mock interviews were a huge success. BPE members were very happy for an opportunity to practice interviewing as were Krannert students. Both interviewers and interviewees responded that they strongly agreed the interviews were helpful and all agreed that they would participate in mock interviews again. Both Guler and the BPE agreed that they would like to partner again in the fall and perhaps expand the mock interviews to include group interviews or perhaps more job-specific interviews.
The BPE, a nonprofit organization which is dedicated to support professionals in a career transition, helps individuals with educational resources and networking skills. Members attend weekly meetings featuring networking, guest speakers and employment information.
