Sam graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in mathematical statistics in the May of 2016. This program focused on theoretical aspects of statistics, however, the program’s practical elements sparked his interest in analytics. This discovery led him to join the Business Analytics and Information Management program where he learned about advanced analytic techniques, data technologies, and optimization techniques.
Sam interned at Mercer in the IT department, which exposed him to many different computer languages There he automated established business practices. Using java, he created code that was used for 23 separate applications to automate data entry. He was also worked on projects using VBA and Python, creating processes to be used by other employees for daily tasks.
After the completion of his Master’s degree at Purdue, Sam hopes to continue using the analytical techniques he learned in combination with his IT experience in a data science field. He is excited about the growing need for analytics in solving many of the problems in the future.
