Spotlight : Student Global Leader

Priyanka Govindraj

First-Year MBA Student
St. Louis, MO

Why should a prospective student choose the Krannert School?

A prospective student should choose the Krannert School because it presents global and diverse opportunities while providing a supportive and collaborative community.

What extracurricular clubs are you involved in at Krannert, and how have they contributed to your experience?

I’m involved with KGSA as a first-year representative as well as the Operations and Consulting clubs. As my first year has just started in these organizations, I hope to practice hands-on learning and leadership with case competitions and interact with a multitude of professionals from around the world.

How would you describe the Krannert faculty?

My home away from home. They connect with you not only on a professional level, but on a personal level as well. What initially convinced me that Krannert was the best fit for me was how much the faculty cared about my goals and aspirations. Since arriving at Krannert the faculty have continued to show that same support and provided me with every resource necessary to succeed.

Your classmates come from a variety of work backgrounds.  What have you been able to learn from them?

I’ve been able to learn about their successes and failures in their companies, what attracted them to specific industries as well as what they see for the future in those field. We all start off creating our own paradigms of how the world works. At Krannert I’ve been able to develop my paradigm even further through the work experiences of others.

How has the Krannert School helped develop your leadership skills?

Krannert has presented me with the opportunity to represent my classmates as KGSA’s first year representative. In order to truly develop my leadership skills in this role, I aspire to connect with my classmates through their cultures and beliefs in order to truly understand what makes them feel comfortable. Krannert has provided an open and diverse learning environment in which developing leadership within and outside of formal leadership positions is anything but impossible.

How would you describe living in West Lafayette?

Peaceful and accepting. West Lafayette has proven to be a community that accepts and and inspires diversity which only makes the Krannert experience that much better!

Away from Krannert what do you do for fun?

I enjoy running on the Wabash Trails in West Lafayette and through the downtown Lafayette area to check out what the town has to offer! West Lafayette also has a great Yoga community, which I hope to soon explore.

What do you like most about the Krannert School of Management and Purdue?

The people. From the students to the faculty, Krannert has a friendly and positive environment that encourages learning and personal growth. Everyone here has your best interest at heart and constant collaboration is executed to make sure your goals are a priority.

How have you been assisted in your job search?

Incredibly. Even before I arrived at Krannert I received full feedback on my job application documents. Once I arrived, the KPDC staff has continuously provided direction and inspired my job search. What I value most is how much time KPDC is willing to put in to make my search as thorough as possible and how they genuinely care about my goals and aspirations.

Who is the person, business world or otherwise, that you most admire, and why?

I admire my boss from my previous employer the most. He never told me what qualities make a good leader, or explained to me why a good work ethic makes an impact- He showed me. Leadership concepts that I had read and heard about truly came to life through his actions and not by his words, allowing me to develop a whole new idea of leadership. His consistency and dedication are two values I will always keep with me and hope to implement in my future endeavors.

When we catch up with you in 10 years, what do you expect to be doing?

I hope to be having an absolutely busy work schedule because of important decisions the company needs to make, in addition to a completely booked social and family calendar. I hope to be blessed with the happy chaos of loving my job and loving my family.
