MBA StudentHuman Resources Intern-Compliance
Oshkosh Corporation, Oshkosh, Wisconsin
My role this summer is to support the compliance efforts of corporate HR at Oshkosh Corporation. My primary responsibilities include streamlining an employee handbook and creating reference guides regarding American’s with Disability Act and Protected Veteran Status.
Addition projects that I have worked on include:
- Assisting with candidate screening
- Analyzing benefits data for Affordable Care Act (ACA) Compliance
- Working with campus relations to maximize Purdue recruitment
- Benchmarking Diversity and Inclusion Best Practices
What are some outcomes the organization will have from your internship experience?
By the end of my internship the organization will have a fully developed, interactive digital employee handbook. The last time this document was updated internally was over 12 years ago. Also, I helped implement several process guides to streamline tasks that I completed over the summer such as ACA fee calculations and reasonable accommodation reporting.
How did you find your internship?
I received my offer after meeting and interviewing with Oshkosh Corporation at the SMEF Spring Career Fair on campus. I was impressed with their diversity and inclusion initiatives and the opportunity to work on compliance based projects.
How has the experience been interning at a large organization?
Coming from a background in small nonprofits, I am grateful for my experience in a fortune 350 organization. I learned to adapt to working in a large team with smaller functional teams. Also, there is high expectation for excellence ingrained in the culture which allowed me to develop both my technical and interpersonal skills to accomplish my tasks.
