    Spencer Couts

    • Why should a prospective student choose the Krannert School?

I would highly recommend the Krannert School to anyone interested in challenging themselves and developing top quantitative and analytical skill sets.  Krannert provides the highest quality education in business and management, consistent with some of the world's other top schools at Purdue University such as engineering, mathematics, and chemistry.  Regardless of an individual's background and training, Krannert provides an experience that stretches, develops, and prepares individuals to be successful in highly quantitative and evolving industries.

    • What extracurricular clubs are you involved in at Krannert, and how have they contributed to your experience?

While at Purdue I have been involved in the Student Managed Investment Fund and the Finance Club.  Being involved in these clubs has allowed me to listen to seminars and interact with executives from some of the world's most successful investment groups.  It has also provided opportunities to travel to New York and Chicago to interact with Krannert investment professionals and to represent Krannert at top case competitions throughout the United States.

    • How would you describe the Krannert faculty?

One of the greatest features of Krannert is the faculty.  Faculty members at Krannert are among the best in their respective fields and provide the highest level of education available.  At the same time they are very personal and approachable.  They make themselves easily accessible and available as needed.

    • Your classmates come from a variety of work backgrounds...what have you been able to learn from them?

Being able to hear comments from students who have worked in banking and investment fields has given me a better understanding of how principles taught in the classroom are used in industry.  Additionally, Krannert has a very diverse international student body which provides the opportunity to hear how businesses operate in countries that I have not yet visited.

    • How has the Krannert School helped develop your leadership skills?

Krannert has been set up so as to allow many of the extracurricular activities to be organized and driven by students and student organizations.  While Krannert staff work with students and student organizations to ensure quality activities, they give much autonomy and freedom to students and student groups.

On a related note, one of Krannert's greatest attributes is the openness for input and feedback from students.  From the Dean, to the Directors of the Master's programs, to the Career Development personnel, each group has sought after and openly welcomed feedback and then implemented those suggestions meriting action.  There is a feeling of openness and approachability at every level of the administration.

    • How would you describe living in West Lafayette?

Since Purdue isn't part of a large metropolitan city there seems to be greater unity and team spirit here than may be found at other universities surrounded by large cities.  Additionally, the people in West Lafayette generally reflect the friendly demeanor associated with communities in the Midwest.  One of the aspects that appealed to my family was the environment for kids.  West Lafayette is a very family friendly community and is great for families with kids.

    • Away from Krannert...what do you do for fun?

Away from Krannert I enjoy exercising, lifting weights, and playing sports.  There are a number of club sports and intermural leagues in which Krannert students participate.

The core curriculum is the best of any school in that it gives you a strong foundation in all areas of business.

    Tia Cummings

    • Could you explain what your job entails?

"In this role, I'm responsible for managing the day-to-day aspects of the Stayfree brand, including sales forecasting, promotions, new product development, and online media. In addition to my regular responsibilities, I'm very active in recruiting, serving as a team lead for summer intern planning and diversity recruiting ."

    • Why should a prospective student choose the Krannert School?

"I think Krannert has a lot to offer. It's a small enough school so you don't feel like you get lost in the masses. But it has all the benefits of a larger school with its outstanding faculty and facilities. The core curriculum is the best of any school in that it gives you a strong foundation in all areas of business because you are required to take a wide variety of classes."

    • What was the thing you enjoyed most about your time at Purdue?

"The student body. Not only were people so easy to get along with, but the various experiences that they brought to the table really enhanced the classroom discussions."

    • What extracurriculars were you involved in, and how did they help prepare you for your career?

"I was president of the Krannert Graduate Student Association (KGSA). I compare that experience to managing a cross-functional team, an important skill to have in the corporate world. I was also a VP in the Christians in Business, which just reminded me that it is important to be ethical in the workplace. And working for J&J, a company that places great value in its Credo, this is even more critical."

    • How was the teamwork among students at Krannert?

"Teamwork was very strong at Krannert. You learn very early on in your first year that it is practically impossible to get all of your work done without your team. So, you come to rely on your teammates and are careful in selecting the best possible members."

    • What role did the diversity of the student body play in your Krannert experience?

"There is no doubt you will learn a great deal from the great professors at Krannert. But you can learn even more outside of the classroom just by talking to your fellow classmates about their different experiences."

    • What was your favorite class at Krannert, and why?

"I had too many to choose! I enjoyed my core marketing classes and Brand Management. But, I also enjoyed Negotiations, M&A with Diane Denis, and some of the OBHR classes I took for fun."

    Jeffery Drzewiecki

    • Why should a prospective student choose the Krannert School?

"I have been Impressed with the concentration by the University and Krannert staff to make the business programs very competitive.  Krannert has implemented the launching global leaders program that is helping to shape the leaders of tomorrow.  With several years of management and leadership experience, I have offered ideas to grow the program.  The staff and school seem very interested in input from their students and they try to adapt rapidly to recommendations.  This is not something I have seen in other institutions."

    • Your classmates come from a variety of work backgrounds...what have you been able to learn from them?

"The exposure to an international student body has allowed me to learn of other cultures and be more understanding of diverse mannerisms and social norms.   This experience will help
me adjust in an international business environment and in an ever shrinking world."

    • What do you like most about the Krannert School and Purdue?

"I like the curriculum and how it is structured to maximize my learning in a limited time.  It's hard-work and long hours, but it fits well with my desire to learn and quickly return to
      industry with new skills."

    • Who is the person, in the business world or otherwise, that you most admire, and why?

"Elon Musk, he was the CEO that helped the rise of Tesla Motors, an upcoming electric car company.  He took an idea and through his vision created a car company from nothing while using a new technology.  The car-maker is still having some problems with production and profitability,  but I feel that will eventually be overcome.  He consistently maintained that Tesla's long-term strategic goal was to create affordable mass-market electric vehicles which I believe will eventually revolutionize the transportation industry."

    • When we catch up in 10 years, what do you expect to be doing?

"I want to be running a medium to large facility in a business operations related field.   I have an extensive background operations and logistics.  I really enjoy the fast paced high
stress environments that require quick analysis and decisions.  I think my time at Krannert has increased my ability to function effectively in those environments."

    • How would you describe the Krannert facilities?

"Rawls Hall is top notch in architecture, efficient design, and resources.  The IT and visual aid systems in the classrooms are modern and help present information efficiently and comprehensively. They also are efficient to help keep the instructor covering the material and not wasting time.  The computer labs are also very well equipped and spaced out."
