Application Materials & Instructions

We are delighted that you have chosen to apply to the Krannert School of Management! The following outlines all required materials and instructions for the application process. Please keep in mind that it is the responsibility of the applicant to collect and submit all the required application materials. Applications will not be reviewed until all application materials (including payment, test scores, transcripts and recommendations) are received by the Krannert Admissions Office.

The Admissions Committee requires that all test scores be received before applications can be reviewed. Domestic students must provide GMAT scores; international students whose native language is not English must provide TOEFL scores in addition to the GMAT scores. Self-reported test scores can sometimes be used for committee review, but official scores must be received before admission decisions are finalized.

Application Materials & Instructions

(Domestic & International)

1. Application

Complete the online Apply Yourself Application. Our online application is part of the AY Application Network. We have contracted with AY to provide online application services for our admissions office.

This online application to the Krannert master's program will satisfy the application requirement to both the Krannert School of Management Master's Programs and the Purdue University Graduate School. Please do not apply directly to the Purdue University Graduate School - submitting an application to the Purdue University Graduate School does not satisfy the Krannert School of Management application process!

2. Application Fee

Payment of the $55 non refundable application fee by credit card will speed the processing and review of your application. If you elect to pay via check or money order, your application will not be processed or reviewed until proper payment is received in the Krannert Admissions Office. Checks must be payable to Purdue University in U.S.. funds drawn from a U.S. bank. Please clearly print your full (legal) name and social security number (optional) on the check. For best results, have your payment ready when electronically submitting your application. Mail the $55 payment with a copy of the AY payment confirmation page to:

3. Academic Transcript Request Form

Please use the Academic Transcript Request form (make copies as needed) to request an official transcript from each of the colleges and universities you have attended as a registered student, regardless of the number of courses taken. The form asks the registrar to enclose both the official transcript and the request form in the institution’s standard business envelope, seal the envelope, sign across the seal, and return the envelope to you. When you receive the returned envelope, DO NOT open it – enclose it with the supplemental application materials you will be mailing to Krannert.

4. Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

Applicants must take the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), which is administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). An official institutional copy of your GMAT score report must be sent from the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) to the following school codes:

MSHRM - 1RZ-R6-46
MSIA - 1RZ-R6-98

 5. Two Recommendations

Your recommendations should come from your employers or persons who are well suited to render an opinion on the basis of close and sustained observation. We strongly urge that one recommendation be from your direct supervisor. The second recommendation should come from another professional associate who can add personal insight to your candidacy. Alternatively, the second recommendation may be from a college professor. No more than two recommendations are needed.

Recommendations for Krannert are submitted via the AY online process, which is outlined in the following steps:

Step 1: Applicant Registers Recommenders.

You start the process by asking your recommenders to complete a recommendation, then registering your recommenders to complete an online recommendation. Simply enter your recommenders' contact information on Recommendation section of the AY application online.

Step 2: Recommender Receives Email and Logs In.

After you register your recommender(s), they will receive an automated email with instructions to login to the Online Recommendation System.

Step 3: Recommender Completes and Submits Recommendation.

After logging in, your recommenders will have access to an exact replica of the Krannert recommendation (just as you have access to the actual application) and will have the ability to submit the recommendations online directly to Krannert.

Step 4: Krannert Receives Recommendation.

The program to which you are applying will receive the recommendation, and it will be matched with your application.

Step 5: Applicant and Recommender Receive Confirmation.

When your recommender submits the recommendation, both you and your recommender will receive email to notify you of its successful submission. Both recommendations must be received electronically before you will be able to complete the submission of your application to Krannert.

Throughout this entire process, you and your recommenders can track the status of your recommendations. Rather than waiting for a phone call or response through the mail, you can have the confidence of automatically knowing whether or not your recommendations have been submitted to the program.

Additional Instructions for International Applicants

The Krannert School of Management values the diversity of ideas and perspectives brought by international students. Applying to American universities can be a complex and confusing procedure for an international student. We recommend that you follow these instructions carefully and keep them for reference. When evaluating international applications, the Admissions Committee recognizes some differences in educational systems and grading policies. Observe deadlines carefully. Incomplete or late materials could delay or prevent your acceptance or make it difficult to obtain a U.S. visa by the beginning of the program. Take the required tests and complete the application as early as possible.

6. TOEFL

International degree-seeking applicants whose native language is not English must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently to be successful in the program. Therefore international student applicants are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), administered by the Educational Testing Service. The score must be less than 2 years old by the date of your admission to be valid. The test should be taken before the international student application deadline.

The Graduate School accepts all forms of TOEFL testing which includes, the paper-based test, computer-based test, and Internet-based test. The minimum paper-based test score required for admission is 550. The Graduate School's minimum computer-based test score required for admission is 213. The minimum Internet-based test scores required for admission are the following:

Writing 18

Speaking 18

Listening 14

Reading 19

Total 77

Note that in addition to required minimum scores for writing, speaking, listening, and reading, the Graduate School also requires a minimum overall score that is higher than the minimums for the four area tests combined. Applicants must meet or exceed each of the five scores (listed above) for admission to the Graduate School.

Only official TOEFL scores received directly from Educational Testing Service are acceptable. For further information, visit www.toefl.org. Purdue University's code for the TOEFL application is 1631, dept.: 02.

IELTS: The Graduate School also accepts the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores. An overall band score of 6.5 is required for admission. For more information, please visit www.ielts.org.

7. Transcript Translation

If you were educated in a country where your original transcripts are not in English, you must send both an official transcript in the original language and a certified English translation from the issuing institution. If your transcript does not show the award of your degree and the date awarded, then you must provide a certified copy of the diploma and a certified English translation.

Applicants from South American countries: Our experience has shown that a certified diploma and certified English translation usually are required.

Applicants from India: Our experience has shown that you will be required to provide documentation that verifies the awarding of a baccalaureate degree or its U.S. equivalent. This documentation must either be an original document or a copy of the original document certified by an official from the issuing university.
