Master of Science in Industrial Administration (MSIA)

The purpose of the program
The Master of Science in Industrial Administration (MSIA) is a unique accelerated program that is Krannert's one-year alternative to its traditional two-year MBA.  Krannert has chosen to use the MBA degree label in West Lafayette to apply to its two year, 60 credit hour program that allows students to select one or more areas of business to study in depth.  However, the rigorous 48-credit MSIA program includes Krannert's MBA core curriculum, along with several electives and meets the minimum curriculum standards for an MBA program under AACSB accreditation guidelines. Therefore, MSIA graduates should be regarded as having an educational background equivalent to someone with a one-year general MBA. The MSIA program, established in 1957, is Krannert's oldest masters-level management program.  Krannert MSIA alumni include many successful entrepreneurs, along with past and current CEOs, presidents, and senior executives of some of the world's leading companies, such as Accenture, Goodrich, United Technologies, Air Products and Chemicals, Ingersoll-Rand, and Citigroup.

This highly accelerated program develops well trained and highly effective management professionals, emphasizing in-depth analytical skills, understanding of business management fundamentals from several important perspectives, awareness and adaptation to changing business environments, complete and effective communication and presentation skills, and a strong technology component.

The plan of study
The emphasis on developing general management skills means that MSIAs do not have areas of formal concentration. MSIAs can, however, choose a limited number of courses in the spring and summer sessions for their 13 elective credits, including those in subjects ranging from e-commerce to human resources and operations to marketing. An exchange program is available which enables study in Hannover Germany for an eight week period. This accelerated program in Industrial Administration is intended for highly ambitious students who are prepared for complete immersion into a very demanding and rewarding professional business management curriculum.
