Assistantship Information Krannert Master's students often hold assistantships, but we encourage students to make careful choices when considering these positions because the program is quite rigorous and time consuming. We generally recommend that students wait until the second year of the program to take on the added responsibility of an assistantship, but we recognize the significant financial advantage that the assistantship's tuition remission provides. For students who choose to hold an assistantship in the first year, we recommend that they seek quarter-time assistantships whenever possible. Quarter-time assistantships require 10 hours of work per week, and half-time assistantships require 20 hours of work per week. Both types will provide tuition remission, but the monthly stipend is higher for half-time assistantships. Please note that we strongly recommend against MSIA students holding assistantships. The MSIA program requires 19 to 20 credit hours of coursework per semester, and your job search will take a significant amount of time outside of class. Students accepting assistantships should not take on responsibilities that will interfere with the Friday Leadership and Ethics Series programs at Krannert. The Leadership and Ethics Series (MGMT 39000) is required for first-year MBA, MSHRM, and MSIA students. Students should expect that they have programs to attend at Krannert on Fridays during their first year. Times for these programs will vary, depending on speaker availability and the type of program being offered. Graduate assistantships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and other criteria that may be specified by the sponsoring organization. Such awards are sometimes restricted to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. |
