Housing Information

Housing Information Purdue University and the Lafayette/West Lafayette community offer a wide range of housing options for students. If at all possible, students should obtain housing before arriving in town for the school year. However, students should also be cautious about signing a lease before seeing the property. We also recommend that students use Google Maps and GoCityBus to check the distance of their apartments from campus and bus routes respectively.

On Campus Housing Purdue University provides on-campus housing for graduate and other students at Hawkins Hall and Purdue Village. Students in Hawkins Hall live in more traditional, residence hall style private rooms, and kitchenette facilities. Meal plans are also available. Hawkins Hall is located one block from Rawls Hall, and is connected to Rawls Hall by tunnel. Purdue Village, located approximately 1 mile from Rawls Hall, offers one- and two-bedroom apartments with full kitchens for students, as well as their spouses, registered domestic partners, and families.

Off Campus Housing The Lafayette/West Lafayette community has a large number of rental apartments and houses, ranging from large resort-style apartment complexes, small neighborhood apartment buildings, and single-family houses. The University has no system for approving or inspecting off-campus housing. In West Lafayette, a program provides for the systematic inspection of all rental property every two years. If you want to know whether a particular unit has met the requirements of this program, you may find out from the city's housing inspection office (765) 497-3689. Remember, your personal inspection of a place where you might live is your only guarantee that it is the kind you want.
