Applied Management Principles (AMP): Summary
We believe that AMP is helping to define new standards and credentials for the business education of PhD students and others with advanced technical backgrounds. By developing, designing, piloting, and continuing to offer this innovative program, we are addressing the needs of a growing group of individuals in a unique manner.
We aim to further the availability of the program by increasingly adding select participants from industry, as well as PhD student participants from other CIC/Big Ten institutions. We also desire to take even more condensed versions of the program to select metropolitan areas within the United States, in order to further serve participants from industry.
Most importantly, we offer AMP as a means to help prepare participants for an interdisciplinary working environment where the line between the technical and the managerial is increasingly blurred. AMP allows those with advanced technical backgrounds who are already employed in industry to acquire the business acumen to make more informed and substantive contributions to their organizations. It also enables PhD student participants to view their technical educations through the lens of business enterprise.
