Course Description :

Strategic cost management (SCM) refers to the development and use of cost information to create, communicate, implement, and control strategies. This course will expose you to a variety of important management issues, initiatives and situations. Topics include (but are not limited to):

• Strategy • Incentives • Game theory • Activity Based Management (ABM) • Cost of capacity • Time Driven Activity Based Costing • Target costing • Re-engineering • Cost of quality • Pricing/bidding • Sourcing • Supply chains • Budgeting • Balanced Scorecard • Benchmarking • Modularity and complexity • Life cycle costs • Environmental costs • Transfer pricing • International strategic issues

The objective of this course is to provide a general perspective on these topics and, where possible, to establish and explore how they are connected. Applying these tools should lead to the continuous reduction of resources used while simultaneously holding or even increasing value.


Prerequisites :

Completion of one semester in the Masters program, or instructor's permission.
