Management Admission Index (MAI) & Economics Admission Index (EAI)

The Management Admission Index (MAI) is a sequence of courses that must be completed with the required grade point average to be eligible for upper division management classes.


Management and Accounting Majors:

The following courses are the MAI courses for Management and Accounting majors:
MA 15300 (if needed due to ALEKS score), MA 22300, MA 22400, ENGL 10600 or ENGL 10800, MGMT 20000, ECON 25100
To be admitted to upper division management a student must have:

  • a 3.00/4.00 MAI
  • 2.50/4.00 grade point average (GPA)
  • have a "C" or nigher in all MAI and School of Management courses
  • student cannot be on probation.

Economics Majors:

The following courses are the EAI courses for Economics majors:
MA 15300, MA 22300, MA 22400, ENGL 10600 or ENGL 10800, COM 11400, ECON 25100, CS23500

To be admitted to upper division management a student must have:

  • a 2.75/4.00 MAI
  • have a "C" or nigher in all EAI and ECON courses
  • student cannot be on probation.

Industrial Management Majors:

The following courses are the MAI courses Industrial Management majors:
MA 16100 or MA 16500, MA 16200 or MA 16600, ENGL 10600 or ENGL 10800, MGMT 20000, ECON 25100

To be admitted to upper division management a student must:

  • have a 2.85/4.00 MAI
  • have a 2.40/4.00 GPA
  • have a "C" or higher in all MAI and School of Management courses
  • have completed their science requirement
  • not be on probation.


Transfer Students

A student seeking CODO to management or who is a transfer will need to establish 15 credit hours of Purdue University coursework meeting the MAI requirements.


Additional requirements:

  • A student may enroll in a MAI courses only two times for a grade.
  • A maximum of three MAI courses may be retaken for a grade.
  • Grades of "F" earned in MAI, School of Management, and minor courses may only be retaken at Purdue University, West Lafayette.

The following example will demonstrate how to calculate your MAI.

MAI = Total points divided by Total hours for the MAI courses
MAI Example    57 points divided by 19 hours = 3.0
