BOP '17 lands top jobs despite COVID-19 pandemic
An incredibly successful BOP cohort, students from BOP '17 received some of the best full-time career opportunities among all graduating seniors in the School of Management. Read about those career opportunities below:
Mya Carter (Indianapolis, Indiana) will head to San Francisco upon graduation to work as a human capital consultant with Accenture. The former Society of Minority Managers (SMM) Vice President of Recruitment and Retention interned last summer with Accenture and completed two previous internships with Hillenbrand and Red Cheetah Moving. Due to her passion regarding the human resources management profession, Mya currently works as a Peer Consultant within the Purdue University Center for Career Opportunities. There, Mya assists students campus-wide with professional development. Outside of HR, Mya's hobbies include dance, tennis, and mentoring.
Kristen Day (Indianapolis, Indiana) is the funniest student to ever participate in the Business Opportunity Program. Next summer, she will work in Marketing at Kohl's in their corporate headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by day; and by night you will find her in Chicago comedy clubs doing stand-up. Kristen is a member of Ad Liberation, an improv comedy troupe on campus, and founded the Purdue Stand-Up Comedy Community in the fall of 2018. On her marketing side, Kristen held prior internships with Krannert as a Media Production Intern, Purdue Convocations as a Marketing Intern, and with Find8 Performance Marketing as a Social Media Intern. On her entertainment side, Kristen gained experience working as a Producer for the BoilerTV network.
Miguel Diaz (Hammond, Indiana) is the third member of his family (behind sister, Ariana Diaz (BOP '12) and cousin Mariela Carrasco (BOP '13)) to participate in BOP. The Finance major will move to Indianapolis to become a Fellow within the Orr Fellowship. The former SMM Vice President of Finance interned last summer with Procter & Gamble and interned in the PwC Chicago office during the summer of 2019. Last spring, the Barbara Cook chapter of Mortar Board selected Miguel as one of the top 40 rising seniors on campus due to his superior scholarship, dedicated service to the University community, and outstanding and constant leadership.
Jonathan Esparza (Logansport, Indiana) was a very driven student coming out of Logansport High School and is known in BOP for his initiative and excellent time management. Due to his high school achievements, participation in BOP, and aggressive course scheduling over the years, Jonathan will graduate with 150 completed credit hours and his Accounting degree in only seven semesters. Upon graduation, Jonathan will work in PwC's Indianapolis office. He interned with Caterpillar over the last two summers and works on campus in the Purdue University Office of Ethics and Compliance as their student employee.
Jared Florell (Ham Lake, Minnesota) will return to Minnesota to work in Finance at Target in their corporate headquarters in Minneapolis. The former President of SMM is the current President of the Boiler Student Athlete Advisory Committee. The former Minnesota state wrestling champion maintains a competitive GPA while pinning competition to the mat as a member of the Purdue Wrestling Team. Jared is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten and two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar award recipient. Jared majors in Finance with a minor in Computer and Information Technology. He had past internships with Cummins in Fridley, MN and the John Wooden Leadership Institute. Jared is also a member of the Barbara Cook chapter of Mortar Board.
Talia Gaeta (Lafayette, Indiana) will begin her career as a Forensic Accountant in Chicago with KPMG. Talia interned with the firm each summer during her undergraduate career. The former Vice President of Professional Development for the Society of Minority Managers also held an internship during the school year as a Project Management Intern for the Indiana Next Generation Manufacturing Competitiveness Center on campus. Over the years, Talia has been very involved with recruiting students to BOP. Talia helped establish a formal relationship with Lafayette Jefferson High School that led to the recruitment of her favorite BOP student: her younger sister, Gabriela Gaeta (BOP '18).
Alexis Gomis (Randolph, New Jersey) is actively involved in numerous organizations within the Krannert School of Management. Her extra curricular activities include: Director of Social Media Strategy/Webmaster - School of Management Council; Administrative Associate - Purdue University Research Center in Economics; Member - Society of Minority Managers; Member - Women in Business. Alexis will receive a degree in Economics with a Certificate in Entrepreneurship & Innovation. Over the last two years, Alexis interned with PwC in their Chicago office and will return to the firm for full-time employment next summer as an incoming Management Consultant.
Gabrielle Mann (Ashburn, Virginia) will be an incoming Sales and Marketing Rotational Program Associate at Intel in northern California. Many posts to BOP social media accounts came from her phone, as she served as the BOP Social Media Student Director. For the last two years, Gabby mentored incoming BOP freshmen and is very active within the Society of Minority Managers. Last summer, Gabby interned with PepsiCo and in 2019, she interned with CenturyLink in Washington, DC. Gabby majors in Marketing and her positive attitude has led to numerous professional development opportunities including her most recent one with The Consortium for Graduate Study in Management as a Competitive Advantage Scholar.
Kamri Tuck (Indianapolis, Indiana) will not accept anything less than his best. At the beginning of his sophomore year, Kamri aggressively searched for top internship opportunities and landed an internship with PwC in Indianapolis. Last summer, Kamri interned with Accenture in their Chicago office. Kamri has interests in case competitions, mentoring, and volunteering and is an active member within the Society of Minority Managers, Black Student Union, and Latinx Student Union. In the past, Kamri worked as a Customer Service Representative for both the Black Cultural Center and the Information Technology at Purdue (ITaP) office. After graduation, the Finance major will move to Sacramento, CA and return to Accenture as a CDP Analyst.
Makayla Woods (Munster, Indiana) had no intentions of coming to Purdue. Fortunately, her mother forced her to visit campus and she met Darren Henry by chance. After considering his offer, Makayla ultimately chose to participate in BOP and achieved great success since the summer of 2017. Makayla interned with Rockwell Automation (Milwaukee) in finance, experienced auditing at KPMG (Atlanta), and will return to Microsoft in Seattle, WA for full-time employment as an incoming FRP Analyst. Makayla is active in SMM, is a former member of the Purdue Dance Team, and is the current Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion for the Women in Business student organization.
