CV

Professor Altinkemer's primary teaching interests are computer communication networks, database management systems, management information systems, and economics of information systems. His current research interests include design of local access computer networks and backbone networks, distribution of priorities by using pricing as a tool, bandwidth packing problems, time-restricted priority problems, combined iterative network design procedures, and design and analysis of local area networks. His other topics or areas of expertise include distributed systems, applied operations research, database management systems, and applications of neural networks to network design. Professor Altinkemer is also interested in ATM, IPv6, LEOS systems, analysis and understanding of outsourcing and reengineering, virtual reality pricing, and productivity and efficiency increase due to outsourcing and reengineering. His recent works in progress are pricing issues in virtual reality, assigning priorities and prices in packet switched networks, time restricted routing in Frame Relay, ATM-like networks, and outsourcing. His publication credits include, "Parallel Savings Based Heuristic for the Delivery Problem" with B. Gavish, Operations Research, 39:3, 456-469 (1991); and "Heuristics with Constant Error Guarantees for the Design of Tree Networks" with B. Gavish, Management Science, 34:3, 331-341 (1988). Other articles have appeared in Operations Research Letters, INFORMS Journal on Computing, EJOR, Transportation Science, Computers and Operation Research, Information Management, and Annals of OR. Prior to joining the Krannert faculty in 1986, Professor Altinkemer was an instructor at the University of Rochester. He is a member of AIS, INFORMS and ACM.
