Yuwen graduated from Indiana University – Bloomington in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in business. During her undergraduate studies, she participated in several analytical projects in different functions of business, such as information systems design, demand forecast and production plan. Through these projects, Yuwen became familiar with the whole business analytics process, from data collection to application, and thus she prepared herself for advanced studies in business analytics.
During the summer of 2015, Yuwen interned at the E-commerce department of a local chain market in China. This department focuses on building a platform for fresh grocery delivery. Yuwen was introduced to using Web searching data to analyze customer behavior and predict demand, and she felt the power and charm of analytics. During the internship, she also noticed times when the value of data was not fully captured because of a lack of either necessary technique or proper understanding of business application. Yuwen saw the significant need for companies to fill this gap, so she decided to pursue a master’s degree in business analytics and information management.
Yuwen looks forward to strengthening her analytics skills through her studies at Purdue. After her master’s program, she would like to work with any company that wants to compete in the Big Data Era with analytics, creating unique solutions for the company.
