A Boiler Beginning: MBA Orientation Week

Friday, August 26, 2016

Anything worth doing is worth doing well, and Purdue University's Krannert School of Management seems to fully understand that. Last week kicked off the beginning of the Fall semester for the 2016 school year, following the heels of a successful orientation week for the entering MS and MBA students at Krannert. The orientation served as a primer for students to develop the proper mindset and tools needed to build a truly transformative experience while in their respective master’s programs.

With an incoming class coming from so many different cultures, backgrounds and experiences, it is necessary to bring everyone together in unity. A full day was spent on team building activities that left fond memories and strong feelings of camaraderie.

My experience during orientation week was certainly eye-opening and wall-breaking.

I was exposed to such an array of ideas and possibilities for both my career path and educational experience that I was forced to take a deeply introspective look at myself - confirming who I was and what I wanted to do with my life; unfortunately, this process can take longer than a week, indeed it can take a lifetime.

The orientation experience provided me with great insight. At the end of the week I was able to find skills that I possessed which I was not aware of, in addition to a variety of opportunities and tools to recognize skills and traits that I could further develop. This time gave me more than pre-class preparation, it gave me opportunities to discover my passions and how to convert these passions and skills into career opportunities.

Now that I have begun my classes I am taking a step further into transforming myself into a future business leader, I will look back with grateful memories on that first week of orientation that helped me put my best foot forward.
