Krannert welcomes new professional staffers and center directors

Krannert recently welcomed two new members to its professional staff as well as new directors for a pair of student outreach and engagement centers.

Sue Doron joined Krannert as executive director of marketing and communications and chief marketing officer; Cara Giese was appointed chief development officer; Dr. Meara Habashi was named director of the Brock-Wilson Center for Women in Management; and Steve Shelby was hired as director of the Larsen Leaders Academy.

An accomplished marketing and media professional with a demonstrated history of working in multiple categories, Sue Doron previously served as the media and market development leader at Indiana University. Prior to that, she served as IU’s director of media planning and as an adjunct professor in communications at Butler University.

In her new role as executive director of marketing and communications and chief marketing officer, Doron is providing strategic and tactical leadership for the Krannert School’s integrated marketing, media and branding efforts as well as managing all external agencies and vendors. A Purdue alumna, Doron earned a BA in communications from the University that led to a more than 30-year career in various media and marketing positions.

Prior to her appointment as chief development officer, Cara Giese served as senior director of operations and donor stewardship at the Krannert School. She also previously served as director of development for planned giving at the Purdue Research Foundation.

In her new role, Giese works directly with Dean Hummels to secure major gifts aimed at meeting the strategic goals of the School of Management. She directly oversees a team of development professionals dedicated to sharing the stories of Krannert with alumni and friends, and connecting them to Purdue and Krannert. Her responsibilities include leading the team in the areas of major gift fundraising, alumni relations, strategic planning and special events.

Dr. Meara Habashi, who joined the faculty at Krannert in 2016 after spending five years at the University of Iowa, was named director of the Brock-Wilson Center for Women in Management effective May 15. In this capacity, she will guide the center in creating new programming focused on the recruitment of women into Krannert academic programs.  She will also lead the expansion of the Emerging Leaders Summer Retreat and the design of new coursework and workshops focused on gender issues in the workplace.

Habashi, who also has served as assistant head of the Department of Management, earned a MS and PhD in social psychology from Purdue after completing her BS in psychology at Baylor University. In addition to her new responsibilities, she will continue serving as the research director for the Brock-Wilson Center and as a faculty member in Krannert’s organizational behavior/human resources area.

Steve Shelby joined Krannert as the director of the Larsen Leaders Academy in January 2020. Steve began his Purdue career in 1996, in the College of Agriculture, and has since worked in the University Development Office, Discovery Park, and Purdue Polytechnic Lafayette. Most recently he was on loan from Purdue to Conexus Indiana, focusing on workforce training for the manufacturing industry.

Originally from Lafayette, Shelby is also part of a family farm operation that has been in Tippecanoe County since 1828. Prior to Purdue, he was in banking, specializing in the automotive sector. A graduate of Hanover College, he also holds an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University.
